ExxonMobil reported third-quarter 2026 earnings of $15.4 billion, or $3.72 a share, in its results release on Friday, 30 October. Adjusted earnings, a company measure that leaves out identified items and estimated timing effects, were $17.5 billion, or $4.23 a share. CNBC compared the quarter's profit with $7.5 billion, or $1.76 a share, a year earlier, and said the adjusted figure beat Wall Street's expectations.
The release showed the Energy Products segment, which covers refining and fuels, earned $7.17 billion in the quarter, up from $5.47 billion in the second quarter. Upstream oil and gas production earned $7.09 billion, down from $7.93 billion, which the company put down mainly to lower prices. ExxonMobil said its U.S. Gulf Coast refineries ran at 100% crude unit utilisation. Upstream production averaged about 4.5 million barrels of oil equivalent a day.
ExxonMobil reported cash flow from operations of $25.7 billion and free cash flow of $19.1 billion for the quarter. It said shareholder distributions totalled $9.4 billion, made up of $4.3 billion in dividends and $5.1 billion in share repurchases. The company declared a fourth-quarter dividend of $1.07 a share, payable on 10 December to shareholders of record on 16 November, and announced share repurchases of $20 billion for 2027, which it said assumes reasonable market conditions.
Chief executive Darren Woods told CNBC that "refining capacity is very tight today" and described diesel as "the key crunch point". Those are his comments on the market. CNBC said the U.S. national average diesel price was $6.32 a gallon on Friday, according to AAA. Reuters reported that ExxonMobil shares rose 2.2% on the day.
